I’m A Dad
So…
On March 27th, 2025 at 4:15 AM, my wife and I became first-time parents to a healthy, beautiful, 9-lb baby boy named Blake Brennan. It has been a wild 6 weeks learning how to care for a child. The overnight wake-up calls to be fed and get a diaper change have been an adjustment. I swear there must be something chemical that makes it less annoying to the parent. If this was someone else’s kid waking us up at god-awful hours of the night, I’d be inclined to throw it out the window! But seriously I would lose all the sleep in the world for this kid (and I’m sure I will continue to lose plenty). Here are photos from 1 day old, and 1 month old:
My band has been on the back burner. I’ve been too busy focusing on the new challenges of parenthood, continuing to fix up my castle (that’s what I call my house), and keeping up on my health. Suz is finally almost back to normal after a difficult recovery due to significant tearing and blood loss during the delivery. On top of that she is almost exclusively breastfeeding which - wow - that is such a commitment. Babies eat like all the time it’s crazy. And all while being very physically limited from the recovery. She is a warrior.
Blake has had plenty of visitors during his first month. Family and friends have made sure to stop by to meet him, and also to give us a helping hand. Thanks! Our Bear has adjusted to being second fiddle surprisingly quick. He even looks for a snuggle from Blake when he can manage it! Tiger, on the other hand, really doesn’t give a damn. As long as she gets her food, and occasional scratches on top of the head.
Work has been busy as ever. Plenty of interesting jobs have “come across my desk”, taking me from LaGuardia Airport in NYC to deep south Jersey and Delaware. The geophysics world just keeps on turning! I have been taking paternity leave Friday of every week thanks to the great state of NJ. It has been a nice chance to help Suz out each week, and to get a little extra time with my son.
This summer I’m looking forward to some paddling, beach days with the fam, bringing Blake on some outings with friends, a couple date nights with my Suz, and finally finishing the outside of my castle. Wish me luck!
