Music & Parenthood
So…
Everything that people say about how quickly it goes by, and the days are long but the years are short, all those cliches - they seem to be true. Also, if I’m being honest, being a parent is difficult (good job mom and dad) and most people just say how wonderful it is. It IS wonderful, but man, it is also very challenging and even more so for Suz. I think over the years I’ll probably block out the difficult times and mostly remember the rewarding and amazing times. Like his first intentional crawl. My jaw dropped wide open - it was great. And there have been many other moments like that. I hope I continue to be present for a lot of them! My son Blake will be just 6 months old next week. I’m curious how I’ll feel at 6 years.
Here are a few recent photos of our family on the go. We took an overnight sleeper train down south to visit family. Blake slept like a rock - his parents did not. And we took an airplane home. Blake did great on his first flight.
Meanwhile, music continues to be my first love. A couple songs I have written in the past six months are on my bandcamp (see the music section of this website). “Headed Home” is about music being my sanctuary and how I will always turn to it in my life - music is my home. Still in the demo phase but my neighbor’s drummer just recorded tracks for it.
“Goodnight Baby Blake”, well that one is pretty obvious. Check them out! As I mentioned my neighbor has a drummer. He also has a whole band! They recruited me last year to play bass at a neighbor’s house for a summer party. It is just cover songs but it is very fun and not a huge time commitment. This year, they recruited me again for our neighborhood end of the season party, which is next week! it will be a great time.
Messy Humans continues to be on hiatus until further notice. I am just choosing to prioritize other things in my life at the moment. Nevertheless those guys and that band have been a huge part of my life. Yesterday, I got a tattoo with lyrics from one of our songs…
The old man is future Glenn, still finding his own way through the rough seas of life. Even as an old man, he continues to value finding his own path and being true to himself. Also it looks cool.
I was able to clean out part of my garage and make a new corner with my recording setup. I even found a spot to hang my OGB Studios neon sign that Suz got me for christmas a few years back. It’s all coming together.
That’s it for now. See ya on the next blog!
