New Year Update
So…
After 3 years on the board of trustees of my local neighborhood park association, and two years as president, I’ve decided to resign from my position as both president and trustee. The decision was an easy one for the fact that my free time is limited and this is one more thing I can take off my plate to make my life a little more manageable. Having a toddler and two full-time working parents means long days and short evenings that we have all together. I love the park and care about it deeply, but right now is not the time for me to focus my energy there. Just as I did with my band (sorry guys), I’m leaving a group of dedicated people to focus on myself and the people closest to me. I will still be attending events at the park and hope to destroy some neighbors in cornhole this summer!
Another thing that I will be focusing on this year is a new job. After starting 7 years ago at Subsurface Environmental Technologies (RIP), and spending 3 additional years after being acquired by Summit Drilling, I decided to move from a drilling company with a geophysics division, to a company that focuses solely on geophysical work. I am making the switch just as this company is acquiring a ton of equipment for various geophysical methods. This is shaping up to be a huge opportunity for my professional development and it’s the most excited I’ve been about my career since making the switch from environmental consulting to geophysics. Fun times!
On the family front, Blake seems very close to taking his first steps and Suz and I are just taking it all in as best we can between exhausting days and nights. It has been a very rewarding 10 months raising a little one. Because of all these things, I have been very busy. Writing music is still my main hobby and I’ve found a little time to do it using an iPad. This is easier than my laptop setup in the garage and enables me to make music on the go. There are limitations but it’s enough to scratch the itch at the moment.
There have also been wide gaps between my blogging. Maybe I’ll pick it up this year? Or maybe I won’t because I’ll be too busy and choose to spend my free time doing other things? Not sure. It is fun to write these, especially when I add in photos and make it about a specific thing that I’ve done. I guess we’ll see what 2026 holds!
